What does it all mean to be healthy?

Our society definitely tells us that health is about what we put in our mouth. But there is so much more about health than that!

Our health involves:

  • Diet
  • Exercise
  • Stress
  • Environment
  • Those people we surround ourselves with (family, friends, acquaintances, coworkers)
  • Career
  • And most importantly our attitude!

A healthy diet involves eating foods that are not processed and come from animals or the ground. That doesn’t mean you can’t have a donut with your coffee on a morning or your favorite other treats. It means those things in moderation. I struggle with my weight and tend to yo-yo through life. It is not easy and something most of us have to stay aware of daily.

Exercise is a key to a healthy life style. Walking is the easiest form of exercise that can be done daily by anyone. Start it up slow and work your way up to 45 minutes a day. You don’t have to lift weights or do anything strenuous to be healthy.

High stress affects every part of your body and soul negatively. Sometimes we have to endure stress temporarily but long term is dangerous. Finding simple things you enjoy each day like a walk, music, your favorite shows that make you laugh are important to enjoy. If you find that things, a job, or those that your surround yourself with are causing you regular stress, you need to take a look at a change or minimizing the exposure to this stress.

Your environment like your home or office should make you look around and smile. If not, add what makes you happy. Maybe a picture on the wall, words to motivate you for the day, photos of your favorite people. Whatever puts a smile on your face!

Who you surround yourself with is extremely important! You may think that negative people will not rub off on you but that is not true over time. Even being around people that have strong different views than you can affect you. Of course, love everyone, but

I mean how much time you give to those around you. I am not a needy person but we all can benefit from people that bring us joy, happiness, and make us smile. This includes not only friends but also family and coworkers. It is ok to avoid spending extra time with family and coworkers that are not good for you. It took me a long time in life to understand that you can’t please everyone, so worry about yourself and those closest around you.

Career is whatever you decide you will spend your time on. It could be a housewife or mom or a professional. We spend so much time on our career that we need to somewhat enjoy it. It doesn’t mean we enjoy 100 percent of it, but the majority. It adds a lot of stress to dislike your job and those you work with. Life is short, so live it well.

I can’t stress a good Attitude more than anything! Life is not perfect. People are definitely not perfect! We can only control ourselves and our actions. We also control what we tell ourselves. Do you feed yourself positive thoughts? Do you do the opposite? Do you need more from others than yourselves? No one is perfect! Forgive yourself. Faith can benefit tremendously!

I love the saying “You can move or change, you are not a tree!”. I hope you know that’s true!
